Description:

The Lead Aircraft Mechanic is responsible for performing, coordinating, and overseeing maintenance, inspections, repairs, and modifications on rotary-wing aircraft in compliance with FAA Part 145 regulations, OEM requirements, company policies, and industry standards. This position provides hands-on mechanical expertise, ensures airworthiness, leads and mentors a team of mechanics and apprentices, and supports efficient workflow, safety, and quality standards throughout the maintenance operation.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead, assign, and oversee day-to-day maintenance tasks for a team of helicopter mechanics.
  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and component replacements on aircraft and aircraft systems.
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with FAA regulations, Part 145 Repair Station procedures, OEM maintenance manuals, service bulletins, and company SOPs.
  • Conduct and review aircraft inspections, logbook entries, work orders, and maintenance documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Coordinate with the Chief Inspector, Quality Control, and DOM to resolve discrepancies and ensure return-to-service requirements are met.
  • Monitor project timelines, labor hours, and workflow to maintain efficiency and meet delivery deadlines.
  • Provide on-the-job training, mentoring, and technical guidance to junior mechanics and technicians.
  • Coordinate daily workflow to make sure jobs are moving, priorities are clear, and the team stays aligned throughout the day.
  • Handling first-level troubleshooting and technical questions from junior mechanics.
  • Communicate progress, issues, and resource needs to management and other departments.
  • Support inventory control by notifying parts needs, shortages, or discrepancies.
  • Ensure proper use, care, and accountability of tools, equipment, and calibrated instruments.
  • Identify and implement process improvements designed to enhance safety, reduce downtime, and enhance the efficiency of the maintenance team.
  • Assist with development and improvement of maintenance procedures and operational processes.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:
  • FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) Certificate preferred.
  • Minimum 5–7 years of rotor-wing aircraft maintenance experience.
  • Experience on UH-60 and/or UH-1 platforms strongly preferred (military or civilian).
  • Prior experience in Part 135, Part 145, or Part 91 operations – Strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of FAA regulations (CFR Parts 43, 91, 135, 145) and industry standards
  • Ability to pass drug test and background check.

Hard Skills & Education:

  • Strong understanding of rotor-wing airframes, engines, hydraulics, electrical, and avionics systems.
  • Familiarity with UH-60/UH-1 technical publications and maintenance requirements.

Physical requirements

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to stand, kneel, bend, and reach for extended periods
  • Visual acuity to detect cracks, corrosion, or wear
  • Manual dexterity for operating tools and equipment
  • Must pass an initial and reoccurring fit for duty exam
