Job Description

Position Summary The primary purpose of the Chemical Plant Operator role is to operate safely and efficiently and control equipment units or systems involved in the coating manufacturing process. Responsibilities Operate and control equipment units or systems that process chemical substances into specified products, following operating procedures, chemical reactions, lab test results, and process instrumentation. Read plant specifications to ascertain product, ingredients, and prescribed procedure modifications. Start feed of materials through equipment units such as heating vessels and mixing tanks; dispense pre‑weighed ingredients into tanks, hoppers or conveyors. Regulate feed of liquids and gases through equipment in specified timing and sequence; start automatic feed. Set up and adjust indicating and controlling devices such as gas analyzers, recording calorimeters, radiographic detecting or gauging instruments to facilitate simultaneous analysis and control of process conditions. Observe gauges, signals, and recording instruments; turn valves and regulate temperatures, pressures, and flow of steam, coolant, and chemical constituents to effect prescribed reactions within critical limits. Draw samples of product at specified stages and perform standard tests to determine if reaction is proceeding efficiently and in conformity with plant standards. Observe product color or consistency through sight glasses and correlate observations with test results, laboratory analyses, and instrument readings. Maintain logs of gauge readings, shift production, and equipment malfunctions. Patrol area to inspect equipment for leaks and hazards and record gauge readings. Direct activities of other workers assisting in control or verification of process. Perform other duties as assigned. Personal Attributes and Experience High school diploma or equivalent required. Previous experience in a manufacturing or warehouse environment preferred. Excellent organizational, time‑management, and communication skills. Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills. Proficient in mathematics and measurement. Ability to use related computer software. Physical Requirements Traverse the operations facility. Lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
