The District Attorney's Office for the 2nd Judicial District is currently recruiting a Firearms Relinquishment Investigator to perform fill performance level criminal investigation work. The office employs approximately 120 attorneys and 180 support staff, who are responsible for more than 6,000 felony and 12,000 misdemeanor prosecutions annually. The elected District Attorney is the chief law enforcement officer in the City and County of Denver and is responsible for the prosecution of violations of Colorado State Laws. The current Denver District Attorney is John Walsh. We are currently recruiting for a Legal Administrative Assistant. Location In this position you can expect to work on site at the Republic Plaza building located at 370 17th St., Suite 5300 Denver, CO 80202, Monday through Friday from 8:00AM - 5:00PM. What You'll Do As a Firearms Relinquishment Criminal Investigator you will be responsible for proper case investigations, interview complainants, victims and witnesses as well as periodically consult with complainants and victims regarding the progress of cases until they have been officially closed. Through investigative procedures, investigators will direct their best efforts in the prevention and suppression of crime, and in the detection and apprehension of criminal suspects. Additional Firearms Relinquishment Criminal Investigator duties include: Reviews all new domestic violence cases filed by Denver Police, including all reports and witness statements, as well as all relevant criminal justice and social media databases, in order to determine if there are firearms in the home and/or in the control of the charged suspect(s) Documents all information relating to firearms in the DA internal database Determines investigative techniques and case strategies; gathers, evaluates, and preserves evidence, analyzes the evidence, prepares spreadsheets or summary charts on financial or voluminous data, and determines the presence or absence of criminal activity Prepares affidavits for arrest warrant, search warrants, and subpoenas, serves parties involved in legal action, and may prepare interrogatories, production requests, and answers in civil litigation Provide reasonably requested information and assistance to other units within the Office of the District Attorney and maintain an efficient level of cooperation and coordination in affected areas. Assist and maintain close cooperation and positive working relationships with other law enforcement agencies Other duties as assigned This position requires certification as a Colorado Peace Officer (POST) at the time of application, and requires a valid Driver’s License at the time of application. What You'll Bring Our ideal candidate will have the following: 5+ years of professional level experience conducting comprehensive investigations of complex criminal and civil cases POST certified and familiarity with drafting arrest/search warrants Familiarity with criminal justice databases Familiarity with the use of social media databases Background in investigating cases involving family violence with a particular emphasis on intimate partner violence Bilingual in another foreign language strongly preferred Required Minimum Qualifications We realize your time is valuable so please do not apply if you do not have at least the following required minimum qualifications: Education: Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice or a related field. Experience: Four (4) years of previous police experience, two (2) of which must be at the level of Criminal Investigator (e.g. Police Detective) or any equivalent combination of education and experience Licensure & Certification: Requires certification as a Colorado Peace Officer (POST) at the time of application, and requires a valid Driver’s License at the time of application. Education/Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education.
