Job Description

WellSpan Health is seeking a dedicated Medical Technologist/POC/MLT to join our Laboratory Services team within our regional healthcare system serving South-Central Pennsylvania and Northern Maryland. In this role, you will perform and oversee a wide range of clinical and point-of-care (POC) laboratory testing that directly supports patient diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing care. Working in a fast-paced, patient-centered environment, you will collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, and other members of the care team to deliver accurate, timely, and reliable laboratory results. As a Medical Technologist/POC/MLT at WellSpan Health, you will be responsible for performing routine and specialized testing in areas such as hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, coagulation, immunology, and microbiology, as appropriate to your assignment. You will prepare and process specimens, operate and maintain laboratory analyzers and POC devices, verify the validity of test results, and follow established quality control and quality assurance procedures. You will participate in instrument calibration, troubleshooting, and basic maintenance, and will help ensure that all laboratory activities comply with CLIA, CAP, Joint Commission, and internal regulatory standards. A key focus of this position is support and oversight of point-of-care testing across designated clinical areas. You will assist with POC implementation, validation, and ongoing performance monitoring, work with nursing and clinical staff to maintain competency in POC testing, and provide guidance when technical issues arise. You will contribute to training and education related to correct specimen collection, test performance, documentation, and result interpretation to help ensure consistent, high-quality patient care throughout the organization. Within WellSpan Health’s collaborative and inclusive culture, you will interact with colleagues across multiple disciplines, sharing information and communicating critical and STAT results promptly and professionally. You will help investigate and resolve testing discrepancies, document corrective actions, and participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives. Safety and infection prevention are essential aspects of the role; you will adhere to all safety policies, use appropriate personal protective equipment, and support a clean, organized, and efficient laboratory work area. WellSpan Health values employee growth, innovation, and community involvement. In this role you will have opportunities for ongoing professional development, including cross-training within the laboratory, exposure to new technologies, and participation in departmental projects. You will benefit from comprehensive training and the support of experienced laboratory professionals and leaders who are committed to helping you expand your skills. As part of a leading regional healthcare system, you will contribute to meaningful work that impacts patients and families every day, supporting WellSpan’s mission to advance health and wellness in the communities we serve. The ideal candidate brings formal training in clinical laboratory science at the MLT or MT/MLS level, attention to detail, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and a commitment to excellence in patient care. The position requires comfort working on-site in a hospital or clinical laboratory setting, flexibility to support rotating shifts or weekends as needed based on department operations, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and professionalism. In return, WellSpan Health offers a supportive environment, opportunities for career advancement, and a comprehensive benefits program, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, retirement savings options, and other resources that support your well-being at work and at home.
