Student Success Coach II's (SSCII) assistRHCstudents with navigating the process into college and completion of their educational goal. This includes supporting the student's adjustment to academic expectations and the culture of college life. SSCII's may work within any Division in Academic Affairs or Student Services. SSCII's work with managers, faculty, and students and are overseen by a manager. This position can perform the work encompassed in the SSCII position. Time commitment: These are temporary positions based on grant funding. SSCII's may work up to 19 hours per week.
Essential Duties - Closely monitor and communicate consistently with a caseload of students; ECommunication may include face-to-face interactions, via phone, email, texting, and internet as necessary; EAct as an informed referral source throughout the academic year, including accompanying students to various resources as needed; ESupport students in acquiring and understanding regular course status reports and success; EGuide/collaborate with students to follow-through on tasks in order to benefit from the resources and their professors; EParticipate in/lead program seminars, workshops and other presentations; ECoach students on topics that promote student success, including effective time management, study skills and exam preparation; EMaintain detailed student contact logs in the database; ECollaborate with fellow Student Success Coach I's and II's to develop supplemental projects; EInitiate appropriate individual projects based on student and program needs; EAttend regular meetings and training sessions; ESupport activities of the assigned program as needed. Knowledge and Abilities
Minimum Qualifications/Education and Experience - • Graduation from high school or GED AND • Completion of a minimum of 30 undergraduate units in any discipline.
Desired Qualifications: Candidates with the intent to pursue a career in higher education and work directly with high school and/or college students in a one-on-one or small group setting. Individuals that are available to work in-person 14-19 hours per week. Experience making group presentations. Experience working in a team. Strong knowledge of the community college system and its mission. Bachelors degree AND candidates who have been accepted to, enrolled in, or have recently completed graduate program preferably in counseling, education, social work, or any related academic discipline. Excellent communications skills: listening, responding, presenting, handling and resolving conflict. Understand the needs of the district's student population who are predominantly underprepared for college demands. Ability to work effectively with diverse populations of students, faculty, and staff. Ability to work with committees and to plan workshops. Capacity for discretion, diplomacy and confidentiality. Demonstrate record of leadership, maturity and academic excellence. Ability to learn RHC's processes, policies and support systems and website tools. Knowledge of research techniques.
