Teaching Faculty Open Rank (Department of English) Milwaukee, WI - Full Time - Position ID: JR10010693 The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee invites applications for up to seven open positions of Teaching Faculty with Open Rank (I, II, or III depending on teaching experience). The initial appointment will be for one academic year starting August 24, 2026, with the possibility of rolling multi-year contracts. Key Job Responsibilities Supervise day-to-day activities of instructional support staff as needed. Develop teaching techniques that enhance course effectiveness in alignment with desired outcomes and established strategy. Assist in defining program objectives and play a major role in carrying out program duties. Help develop techniques and/or model programs to achieve instructional goals within the disciplinary area and identify ways in which new techniques could be of assistance. Provide classroom, online, and/or laboratory instruction, including grading. Assess learner performance and prepare reports recommending instructional improvements. Compensation $30,355 – $46,555 annually (final salary offer will be determined based on title, qualifications, and experience). Required Qualifications MA or MFA in English or related field. At least 2 years of teaching experience in first-year composition, technical or professional writing, advanced composition, basic writing, or English as a Second Language, with evidence of teaching effectiveness. Preferred Qualifications PhD in English or related field. MA TESOL, TESOL certificate, or experience teaching multilingual writers. Experience teaching developmental reading or Integrated Reading and Writing (IRW). Experience with Critical AI Literacy or related approaches to teaching composition. Additional years of experience teaching in the areas listed above. Demonstrated teaching excellence. Experience teaching in Access-Oriented Institutions (AOIs).
